Dawson joined the RCSC at the age of eighteen.
Dawson received a field promotion to corporal during the harrowing events at a small trading station, Port Healy-Hamilton, outside of the Alberta star system. Several individuals were peddling stolen goods and had unethical trading practices.
With very little in the way of law enforcement, the detachment Dawson was assigned to keep the peace. Dawson’s unit, two of whom were Vecchio and Fraser, came under heavy fire and unlike his comrades, he managed to not get shot. He took down the target and evacuated the wounded.
By his mid-twenties, he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He worked his way up the ranks and eventually given command of the Emergency Anti-Terrorist Unit (EATU). He personally requested Fraser and Vecchio, whom he had bonded with during their time at Port Healy-Hamilton.
